Richard Jaeger
Richard Jaeger was held at
Camp Algona from March 1944 to January 1945. He was captured in Italy
in 1944, and spent six weeks making the journey to America. Once
there, he worked on several farms harvesting crops, and at a cannery.
After the war, Jaeger remembered the good treatment he
received at Camp Algona. He remembers being well fed and was able to
make positive connections with his American guards and employers.
Following the war, Jaeger returned to Germany where he became
a top-level city official. He returned to America to visit in 1997.
